Our principal objectives include providing a multidisciplinary forum for exchanging ideas, developing practical strategies to address various social, political and economic challenges faced by Iranians within and without Iran, and facilitating networking amongst all in attendance. This convention will also encourage more active participation in Iranian affairs, and, ultimately, the transfer of knowledge to Iran. This last objective is especially significant as it involves a transnational dialogue between Iranians living in Iran and the Iranian diaspora.
On the one hand, Iran Futures will work to allow Iranians living in Iran to voice their concerns and questions in an effort to shape the themes and content of this convention. On the other hand, the produced knowledge will be communicated back to this primary audience.
Iran Futures in an Un-conference. It aims to foster and facilitate conversation and interaction among all participants. To this end, the event has adopted an open structure to allow for panel discussions, workshops, round-tables, group activities and presentations. All participants and speakers are encouraged to suggest the ideal setting for getting their ideas across and incite new ones in conversation with one another. The organizers will do their best design the event around the suggestions and promise to surprise everyone with a few ideas of their own.
The organisers themselves will form panels out of related foci of discussion, consisting of 3 to 4 panelists. Alternatively they can be organized by the panelists and proposed to the Un-conference with an abstract, which should state the topic, the main issue/question intended to be tackled, and points of variation between the authors.
In either case, presentations should be between 10 and 20 minutes in length and there will be ample time for discussion and questions after the presentations. Panel Presentations require an abstract as well as a final paper which does not necessarily have to be academic but should be well argued and structured nonetheless.
There are two suggested categories for workshops: discussion workshops or hands on projects.
The Un-conference encourages workshops that aim to teach and expand on a specific problem/suggestion and offer practical solutions to the audience. Workshops require a proposal and a formal abstract. Submission of a final paper is not required.
When submitting your proposal,in descending order of relevance, name three subject areas that your paper addresses.
Politics and Governance / Religion / Arts and Culture / History / Environment / Science and Technology / Economy and Development / Social Justice and Advocacy / Diaspora / Gender and Sexuality / Ethnicity / Theory and Philosophy / Education / Urban Studies / Language
